Exterior design

Recognise the GTi from the new, carefully textured paintwork and chequered flag on the front grille. The 17-inch grey alloy wheels, twin exhaust pipes and rear sports spoiler are also part of the athletic redesign. This version of the 208 is available exclusively in a three-door body style, with the city car's lines and contours revised for a sportier overall appearance. Two-tone chrome and black headlights add to the individual front face, joined by LED daytime running lights.

Interior design

Awaiting you inside the car is Peugeot's i-Cockpit layout. It surrounds the driver's seat with all key functions, in logical positions and with clear readability. Your eye will also be drawn to the racing red highlights which surround the instrument dials. All of the sports seats are finished in a comfortable blend of half-leather and half-caro cloth, with embossed GTi branding. Front seat passengers have easy access to the car's seven-inch infotainment touchscreen, through which you can control the navigation system and Bluetooth connection.

Engines and performance

The turbo 1.6-litre petrol engine fitted to the GTi produces the most appropriate level of power at 208bhp, and is mated to a fluid six-speed manual gearbox. Reaching 60mph from a standing start takes no more than seven seconds, quickly getting you to cruising speed. Using the compact, leather-covered steering wheel, turns and manoeuvres feel reliably precise. Peugeot has also brought Start & Stop to the engine, cutting power at a standstill to save fuel. As a result, the 208 GTi can claim as much as 52.3mpg combined, alongside its impressive performance levels and relatively low CO2 emissions.

Safety and technology

The original 208's five-star Euro NCAP safety score is upheld by all other versions of the car. Alongside the many unique aspects of the GTi, you can feel reassured that front, side and curtain airbags and the Electronic Stability Programme remain. Peugeot's intelligent Active City Brake system is on the model's equipment list, activating automatically at up to 20mph to prevent collisions.
